James Murphy (of DFA Records and LCD Soundsystem) dropped his first record following his announcement “There’s not going to be much to see up here, the show is going to happen out there.” And that’s how it went. Playing in a super dark setting with merely a few lasers pointing out into the crowd and on the ceiling, James Murphy and Pat Mahoney’s duo set of electro and disco-house got the place moving. Their set was a bit up and down at times, following a technical difficulty early on with sound and a brief interruption as a result, they slowly built up with some choice tracks, yet only to take it down with some minimal deep house. Although the programming of the set may not have been the most impressive, their selection of tracks was pretty eclectic and paid homage to the sounds of the now defunct LCD SoundSystem. Despite a few slightly botched mixes, it was remarkably refreshing to see real vinyl being used and mixed surprisingly well overall for the variety of sounds that were played.
